Bled
DIAMOND OF THE JULIAN ALPS
If Slovenia is Europe's undiscovered jewel box, Lake Bled is its precious diamond and the symbol of Slovenia's beauty. Tucked in the northwestern corner of Slovenia, between Austria and Italy, Lake Bled's emerald-green waters create a spectacular landscape, with a lush, tiny island and a church tower peeking out of evergreens surrounded by the rocky, snow-covered Julian Alps. This Alpine lake with the only island in Slovenia has been a world-renowned paradise for centuries, impressing visitors with its natural beauty, wealth of legend and special powers to restore well-being. Traditional wooden boats – pletnas – have been taking visitors to the island in the middle of the lake for centuries. These boats are operated by standing rowers known as pletnars. After landing, guests climb 99 stone steps to reach the Assumption of Mary Church. On this island, which is the subject of legendary tales, listen to the church bell and ring it yourself. Legend has it that this will make your wishes come true. As you return to the lake shore, view the island on the lake from the castle or from the walking and horse-carriage trails that lead you around the lake.
Take a ride with Bled coachmen, known as fijakers! Trip starts from a simple country style farm stables located in a village only five minutes drive from Bled. We run one – four hours long horse riding trips for small groups. You will have an opportunity to explore a beautiful alpine nature and villages around Bled. Longer than two hours horse riding trips can be arranged for advanced or strong intermediate riders. We try to never mix different skilled riders, unless they are together in the same party. In that case more experienced riders need to adjust the pace to the least experienced riders.
